Saint Kitts and Nevis or Saint Christopher and Nevis, is an island that you will visit on our cruise to Central America. It is a small archipelago made up of two islands of the Lesser Antilles that give it its name.
Christopher Columbus discovered these islands and gave his name to one, and to the other a name that evoked “the snow”, or the clouds that surrounded the mountain. The area was then fought over by the English and the French of the West India Company, while today it is a port of call on our cruises to the West Indies. The Saint Kitts Scenic Railway, the scenic rail route built to transport sugar cane, is one of the world's great train rides. The islands are of volcanic origin, with large central highlands covered by rainforest. In the parish of Saint Thomas Middle Island is the Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
