What we will do

Our day begins with Gorougakate, the 300 m peak in the centre of Maizuru.

On top of the peak there is a 50 m tall observatory, the Goro Sky Tower, offering amazing views over the port and city of Maizuru.

The panorama is so spectacular that it is known as one of the “100 Scenic Sites in the Kinki Region”.

The Maizuru port is famous all over Japan for the song and story of “Ganpeki no Haha”, i.e the Japanese mothers awaiting the return of their children from the war.

Another stop on our tour is the "Maizuru Repatriation Memorial Museum" which illustrates the history of the city of Maizuru as a repatriation port and displays precious documents explaining the importance of peace.

The museum is located within the Repatriate Memorial Park opened in 1970 on a hill near Taira in the city of Maizuru.

Before going back to the ship, we have some free time to buy some fish products and to enjoy a restaurant lunch.

What you need to know
  • We recommend that you book early because only a limited number of places are available. * Heavy traffic jams to be expected due to it being travelling season in Japan. * Comfortable walking shoes are recommended. * There will be no snow walls considering the season of your visit. * The view may be obstructed due to weather conditions. * We recommend having Japanese Yens available as there will be no time nor exchange offices.
