In this tour, you will experience the history of Hirado.Hirado is located on Hirado Island in the northwestern part of Nagasaki Prefecture. It prospered as a castle town ruled by the feudal lord Matsu'ura.Hirado Castle stands on a hill guarding Hirado Port and the Hirado Strait, which used to be part of an important trade route between Japan and the Asian mainland. Firstly, you will visit Hirado Castle offers a commanding view of Hirado Port and the ancient forest of Kurokojima Island. Its museum contains many valuable relics dating back to the Hirado’s feudal past. Then go to the Matsura Historical Museum which was founded in 1955 and is the oldest museum in Nagasaki prefecture. It is located in the old residence of the Matsura family in Hirado city from where the family ruled over the Hirado domain during the Edo period (1600-1868). You can have free time and stroll around the gardens and visit the residence's Kanuntei tea house where they can relax and enjoy a matcha tea set if you pay extra there. The museum also includes a nice cafe and gift shop in the main building. Lastly, go to Hirado Seto Ichiba(Market) is Hirado's largest fresh food market. You can enjoy local seafood and produce, you can also find vegetables, souvenirs and more on sale.
