- Fishing Museum
What we will do
- We leave the port of Leknes behind us and get on a coach taking us to Kabelvåg. Along the way, we admire breathtaking views of the island of Vestvågøya.
- Once in Kabelvåg, our first stop is the Lofoten Aquarium, where we can discover the fascinating underwater world of the Norwegian Sea. In addition to the numerous species of fish, shellfish and sea animals populating the waters around the islands, we get to know more about the typical Lofoten cod known as “skrei” - the east Atlantic cod that reaches the Lofoten islands from the Barents Sea to lay its eggs. It has been one of the most important products in Northern Europe for centuries and it still is the cornerstone of fishing activities in the Lofoten islands. In addition to the tactile tanks and outdoor pools home to fun seals and otters, the Aquarium also features photo exhibitions and films, a souvenir shop and a café.
- Our second stop is the Coastal Administration Museum, the museum of fishing activities in the Lofoten islands, where we learn the history of Norwegian fishermen by visiting real cabins and boathouses. Reproductions of ports and lighthouses and exhibitions on fishing activities are perfect to entertain adults and children alike.
- We have reached the end of our excursion: we get back to the coach and head back to Leknes where our ship awaits us.
