Description

A boat tour to uplift the spirit and soothe the eyes as we explore the so-called “fjords” of Marseille, majestic spaces that embody the power of nature: typical Mediterranean Maquis, white cliffs overhanging the sea, clear skies and brilliant colours; a slice of paradise at a stone's throw from the city.

What we will see
  • Les Calanques: cliffs overhanging the sea and isolated coves

What we will do
  • We take a boat out to explore a dreamlike stretch of coast dominated by the area's distinctive calanques : narrow inlets with steep cliffs of jagged limestone on either side that have fittingly been dubbed the “fjords of Marseille”. During our boat tour we can admire these white-rock canyons, similar to fjords, that drop into the blue waters of the Mediterranean forming secluded coves and beaches that have been designated a Natural World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
  • The Calanques National Park was established in 2012, and covers an area of 8,500 hectares on land, and a further 43,500 hectares of open sea. Renowned for its biodiversity, the park is home to some 60 marine species and 140 species of land animals and plants, with occasional sightings of eagles, falcons and Eurasian eagle-owls.
  • At the end of our boat trip, we are met by our coach which takes us back to the ship.
