Albania and the city of Saranda are gradually gaining prominence in the Balkans. Saranda is especially loved by young people, a dynamic seaside town south of the country near the border with Greece. The city takes its name from the ancient “Monastery of the 40 Saints” on the hill, and is one of the liveliest places in Albania with many restaurants, attractions and clubs open from June to September. The highlight of Saranda is the beaches, which are paradises of clear water and white sand or rock, but there are many cultural attractions too: visit Lëkurësit Castle, which offers a great view over the city, the lagoon of Butrinto, the old synagogue dating from the 5th century and the museum of archaeology.
